Volunteer Opportunities at Northwest Seaport: Hello Northwest Seaport fans! We need Boat Hosts on Saturday and Sunday to keep the ARTHUR open to visitors. We’ve had huge crowds since the opening of Lake Union Park and need your help to keep up with them. Being a Boat Host is fun, easy, and immensely satisfying when you see the smiles on visitors to “a real tugboat”! We need Boat Hosts! Please email (volunteer@nwseaport.org) or call (206 245-3689) to sign up for a shift or let me know that you’re coming to the work party. I hope to see you all soon! Boat Host Needed Don't have time to be a docent? We still need you! This summer, we need your help to keep the ARTHUR FOSS open to visitors every weekend. Boat Hosts will be stationed in the galley or the upper deck to direct visitors through the tug and answer those fundamental questions like "how do you get to the bridge?" and "is this a real boat?" We're scheduling folks in two-hour shifts between 10am and 6pm Saturdays and Sundays starting April 26. Sign up for as many slots as you like, alone or with a friend.
Docents Needed We're looking for folks to become docents for the ARTHUR FOSS, to guide tours and give detailed answers to visitor questions like "why are there two steering wheels" and "what do tugboats do, anyway?" We'll teach you everything you need to know in a four-session training course that runs on Saturdays. In return, we ask for a six-month commitment to lead at least one tour per month during the busy Summer season at the Historic Ships Wharf. Music Programs We need music volunteers to help with our long-running Maritime Concert and Chantey Sing programs. We typically run one concert and one chantey sing every month and need help with promotion, set-up, and cleanup. Helping with the concerts is also a great way to make sure you attend them! Work Parties We’re reviving our monthly Work Party schedule and need volunteers to help clean up, paint, organize, and otherwise work hard to keep our historic fleet looking good. Work parties start at 9:00 a.m. and run until 5 p.m. or until we’ve run out of steam. This is a great way to get involved in maintaining and repairing the boats and may lead to independent projects after we take care of the basic needs. Come to one or come to them all! We have Work Parties scheduled on: > August 23rd September 20th October 11th November 15th Special Events We have lots of special events that we need help with. These include Seattle’s Opening Day, the Lake Union Wooden Boat Festival, lots of summer block parties and festivals, and the Classic Workboat Show in October. We typically need help setting up and staffing booths or boats at these events, so people who can set up tents and then talk to the public about maritime heritage are great help with special events. We’re still developing our summer calendar, but let us know if you’re interested in helping out! Contact Me Again, please contact me with any questions or if you want to sign up for an event or a volunteer opportunity. I can be reached at (206) 447-9800 or volunteer@nwseaport.org. I hope to see you all soon! **Diana |
