Monthly Chantey Sings
Next Chantey Sing:
Friday, February 10th with Dan Roberts!
8:00 pm
aboard the historic steamer Virginia V
Dan Roberts started the Seattle Chantey Sing over 10 years ago will lead Northwest Seaport’s February Chantey Sing aboard the historic steamer Virginia V. Dan continues to perform with The Whateverly Brothers and Bold Horizon, as well as solo. He will lead the February session and keep the music rolling along. It being close to Valentine’s Day, songs of maritime romance may be featured.
Sea Chanteys are work songs and foc'sle ditties with great choruses that connect our present day maritime traditions and lore to those of the past. Come and lead a song of the sea or just join in on the chorus. Chanteys and sea songs are easy to learn and fun to sing for adults and children alike.
The Chantey Sing runs from 8:00 to 10:00 pm. Admission is free but donations to benefit maritime preservation are welcome. Folks of all ages are welcome. While you're there, browse the Pacific Northwest's largest collection of maritime music CDs for sale and take home your favorite numbers. Coffee, tea, and baked goods will also be available for purchase.
The Virginia V can be found at the foot of Terry Ave. N at Lake Union Park (860 Terry Ave N., Seattle, 98109) along the Historic Ships’ Wharf. Access to the wharf is from park entrances west of the Armory Building and from the footbridge on the west side of Lake Union Park.
Hosted by Wayne Palsson.
